About this game

DOES THE BLACK MOON HOWL?

  • Only When Day Breaks. -

Premise

SCP: CARNIS UMBILICALIS follows 26-year-old Martin Langley and her considerably mundane life as a junior researcher for the SCP Foundation. Site-31 is short-staffed, neglected, and reliant on technology predating the Second World War, making it structurally impossible for the site to hold any SCP with an object class above Euclid. However, this all changes when SCP-71828, the site's first Keter SCP since the restriction was put in place, is transferred in and begins a chain of events that seem to go far beyond the scope of Site-31.

Stillwater, Wyoming, Halloween 2012. This town is... a place. Everyone living here works for the Foundation, whether they know it or not. Its most noteworthy attraction is the Stillwater NuClear Power Station, which is most definitely a real, legit, power plant. Residents of Stillwater are to be forcefully locked up and fully secure in their residencies by sunset, and if you hear cries in the middle of the night: No, you don't.

Background

SCP: CU was created for the Spooktober 8th Annual Visual Novel Jam!

This game has 4 major endings, 3 minor endings, and should take between 30 minutes to an hour to complete. Development began on September 1st, 2026, with volunteers being invited from September 9th onwards. More than 30 volunteers assisted with this project. Please scroll down to find additional information on Characters, a Q&A, Content Warnings, Credits, and more!

09/30/2026: Major Endings 3 and 4 were unfortunately unable to be completed by the Spooktober VNJ deadline. The game has been released in an unfinished state. They, amongst some quality fixes, will hopefully be added within the next two weeks, or by the end of October!

Characters

Q&A

Q. What is "SCP"?

A. The SCPWiki explains it better than me!

Q. Do I have to know a lot about SCP lore / the SCP Wiki to enjoy this game?

A. I would say it depends. Without spoiling too much, this game features relatively niche parts of the SCP Wiki, and you will most likely be confused and will not enjoy the game if you don't know anything about SCP at all. However, if you're a bit familiar with the SCP Wiki, you may be able to find the Groups of Interest this game refers to or piece together the story on your own, even if you didn't know anything about them beforehand! Or you can just admire the art and try to piece together what's going on.

Q. What canon does this game follow?

A. None and many at the same time! SCP: CU is a one-off story. Many of the SCPs, sites, personnel, and lore, do not exist on the SCPWiki and were made up for this game.

CREDITS

The artwork of SCP: CU was made possible by my incredibly talented team of 24 total volunteer artists, assisting me with sprite art, background art, CGs, 3D models, and more! This game could not have been made in the 30-day timeframe without their help, and I can't thank them enough for the time they devoted to SCP: CU. To not spoil any particular scenes, specific credits can be found in the in-game "Credits" page!

OTHER

I (CRRN) spent most of my time during the Covid-19 lockdown reading SCP articles and found myself endlessly enamored by it; I was in fifth grade back then. My projects would not exist if not for the influences of the SCP Wiki. Thus, while I was always too antsy to contribute as a writer, I hope this small artistic project amounts to something!

I was also juggling five AP classes, dual credit, college applications, various other artistic ventures and extracurriculars, and commissions (amongst other things) while developing this game so, while it wasn't as polished as I wished for it would be, please consider donating to my Ko-Fi or through Itch if you enjoyed it; 100% of proceeds will be put into my college savings!

Thank you for reading, and please do check out all of the volunteers for their hard work! This game truly would not exist if not for them.
